0035 On30 Wasatch & Jordan Valley RR - Layout Tweaking

I have roughed in the drawing for the layout and so far I like it.  The trackage is a bit too straight and parallel to the layout edge for my tastes, but when we start building we can fix that.

First we'll put in the benchwork for the upper level, which will be about 12" higher than the lower level.

We'll extend the left side of the benchwork to the wall and then add back the visible trackwork on the level below.

We'll need that scenic divider back now, so let's put it in.  Mostly it will be used for holding up the rock work.

The railroad chose to put in snow tunnels all the way up through the canyon.  I'll probably model these with the sides open, but I'm not really sure how they looked.

Corners make great places for waterfalls and trestles, so we'll add one here.

That's all for now!

  1. Scott,
Looking good! A suggestion: One way to "cheat" the track parallel to the fascia issue is to make one end of that section a few inches wider. Although the track would be in the same position, it would no longer be parallel to the fascia and appear to angle into the layout. The few inches would be missed for aisle width; after all, you did lose a bunch of weight! :-)
