Chuck Doan's Technique for Modeling Peeling Paint on a Structure
Here is Chuck Doan's technique for modeling peeling paint on a structure. For clapboard I stain it with an ink wash and let it dry thoroughly. Once dry I paint the surface with Odorless Mineral Spirits (OMS) and immediately put a coat of paint over it. When the paint is just about dry, I take Scotch Tape and press a strip of tape onto the paint surface, then remove it quickly. This removes some of the paint and leaves a peeling weathered look. I prefer this technique on O Scale or larger models, but it can be done in HO as shown in the video. Click below to play!
